Mumbai: Sonakshi Sinha, known as the Rs 100-crore heroine of Bollywood, will be seen in a new avatar in her next film, Holiday, opposite Akshay Kumar.
New look
“My character in Holiday has a sporty look. Akshay falls for me while watching me boxing in the ring. I loved boxing for the first time. I loved to play volleyball, tennis, basketball and football while in school and college. I was a national-level basketball player,” says Sonakshi, adding, “I have donned a different look in
Holiday. We kept the look very authentic and did not glamourise it unnecessarily. I personally like my braided hair and the sporty dress I wore.”
‘A.R. Murugadoss a hard taskmaster’
“Working with director A.R. Murugadoss went in my favour because he is a perfect taskmaster. We have to follow him and until he is satisfied, he will not call it off. We had to do at least four to five takes for each scene,” she says.
Fitness regime
Sonakshi, who wasn’t a great believer of “gymming” has had a change of heart recently. She says, “I would shirk going to the gym regularly, but I have changed. I regularly go to the gym these days and also include boxing in my routine. However, while I am on outdoor shoots and if I get time, I always play
tennis. I also swim for at least an hour.”
Masala flicks
“I like to work in commercial films merely because when I watch a film as a part of the audience, I understand clearly that they look forward to such masala films. However, I have also done Lootera, which is an emotional film; I get clean bowled while performing in such films,” she says.
Working with Rajinikanth
“Working with Rajinikanth was a pleasure. I remember when I told him that ‘Sir working with you feels great but I am nervous’ He instantly replied, ‘Why should you feel nervous? I have worked with your father and now I am working with his daughter; I need to feel nervous!’ He is a down-to-earth actor and very humble. I enjoyed working with him, she says, adding, “I am quick to learn languages and will dub my own dialogues in my South debut.”
On her father missing out a Cabinet berth
“My father is Member of Parliament; he belongs to the party, and we should not ponder over small things as to why he has not got a ministerial post. He can work for the benefit of the people and the country even by being an MP. He has always looked forward to serving his countrymen. And for sure our government has started on a good note, 'Achche din aa gaye hein.'
On women’s safety
Talking about women’s safety and what the new government can do, Sonakshi says, “The government should suggest lessons on safety measure in the school curriculum for girls right from the primary level. Women are trying to fight their own battle and I am sure that slowly and gradually the crimes against women will stop.”
