Vijayawada, Guntur to be twin cities: Venkaiah Naidu

'Vijayawada and Guntur would be developed like Hyderabad and Secunderabad '

Hyderabad: Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu’s statement in New Delhi on Wednesday that Vijayawada and Guntur would be developed as twin cities with metro rail connectivity followed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu’s announcement that his swearing-in ceremony would be held between the two towns has strengthened the speculation that the new capital of Andhra Pradesh will be spread over Vijayawada and Guntur.

Given the fact that Mr Venkaiah Naidu played a crucial role in the BJP accepting an alliance with the Telugu Desam for the just-concluded polls, and his proximity with Mr Chandrababu Naidu, sources in the Telugu Desam said that the location of the new capital city for AP would have always been around Vijayawada and Guntur as long as the Naidu-led TD was in power.

Mr Venkaiah Naidu, who took charge as the Union urban development minister on Wednesday, told the media that developing 100 smart cities was a priority of the Narendra Modi government, and that Vijayawada and Guntur would be developed as twin cities like Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
