Coimbatore: Cooper Corperation, one of the major manufacturers of engines, is set to launch its marine engines by August in the Indian market, a top company official.

The engines with 100, 125 and 280 Horse Power, would be launched at Malpe in Karnataka and Sasoon Docks in Mumbai, the two of the major fish catching and markets in the country, Rajesh S Walke, General Manager, Engine Business, told PTI. With a capacity to manufacture 48,000 engines per year in its Satara facility, the company expected a sale of 1,000 engines in the initial year, Walke said.

Prototype of the marine engine was already tested and once the fishing ban was lifted and rainy season start, the marine engine, at a cost of Rs 6 lakh with accessories, would be in the market for motorised boats and trawls, he said. The fisherman will benefit by these cost-efficient engines as they could get more catch of fish, to compensate the costly consumption of diesel, Walke said.
