Election Commission recognises YSR Congress as state party

YSR Congress get 1/6 th of the vote share in the elections

Hyderabad: The YSR Congress led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was recognised by the Election Commission as a state party in Andhra Pradesh.
The EC also simultaneously reserved the party’s election symbol, the ceiling fan, for the YSRC on a permanent basis.

Immediately after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha and Assembly results in the 2014 general elections, the YSRC had approached the EC for recognition of the party as a state party by fulfilling the condition that it should get 1/6 th of the vote share in the total valid votes polled in the elections.

The party also got 9 Lok Sabha seats and 71 Assembly seats in both Telangana and Seemandhra and got 44 per cent of votes out of the total votes polled in the general elections.

The EC, after studying the prerequisites, issued orders on Monday granting recognition as state party to the YSRC with a reserved symbol. With this development, there is another state party in AP in addition to TD.
