Sensex companies add Rs 98,000 crore in market value: report

Coal India and SBI emerge as the biggest gainers

New Delhi: The combined market capitalisation (M-cap) of the top 5 Sensex companies surged more than Rs 98,000 crore, with Coal India and State Bank of India (SBI) emerging as the biggest gainers.

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), CIL, SBI and HDFC saw cumulative addition of Rs 98,170.73 crore in M-cap during the week. On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), ITC, HDFC Bank, Infosys and ICICI Bank together lost Rs. 28,637.39 crore. CIL's m-cap surged by Rs 32,781.93 crore to Rs 2,51,107.07 crore, making the coal producer the top gainer. SBI's market value zoomed by Rs 25,454.41 crore to reach Rs 2,05,699.55 crore, while that of ONGC soared by Rs 19,292.63 crore to Rs 3,48,636.22 crore. The BSE 30-stock index, Sensex, gained 571.61 points, or 2.36 per cent.

Similarly, RIL's m-cap shot up by Rs 15,304.76 crore to Rs. 3,64,550.69 crore. HDFC added Rs 5,337 crore in its value, taking its valuation to Rs 1,43,514 crore. On the downside, ITC's value slipped by Rs 12,247.91 crore to Rs 2,72,118.15 crore, while Infosys's m-cap declined by Rs. 6,394.12 crore to Rs 1,76,089.52 crore. The market cap of TCS plunged by Rs 5,905.57 crore to Rs 4,16,699.79 crore.

HDFC Bank lost Rs 3,649.57 crore in market value, taking its M-cap to Rs 1,89,561.76 crore. ICICI Bank's M-cap fell by Rs 440.22 crore to Rs 1,68,789.90 crore. In the ranking of top-10 firms, TCS stood at the top position, followed by RIL, ONGC, ITC, CIL, SBI, HDFC Bank, Infosys, ICICI Bank and HDFC.
