'Saaransh' is not a film but a philosophy for me: Anupam Kher

Actor says the movie changed his thinking and in turn made him a better person

Mumbai: Veteran actor Anupam Kher, whose critically acclaimed film 'Saaransh' turned 30 today, said the movie changed his thinking and in turn made him a better person.

The 1984 family drama was India's official entry at the Oscars in 1985 in Best Foreign Language Film category.

"'Saaransh' was released on 25th May, 1984. It has completed 30 years in this fabulous film industry. What a journey!," Kher, 59, tweeted.

"'Saaransh' changed my life... My thinking forever. It made me a better person. It not a film but a philosophy for me," he added.

The film also starred Rohini Hattangadi, Madan Jain, Nilu Phule, Suhas Bhalekar and Soni Razdan in pivotal roles.

After 'Saaransh', Kher went on to make it big as an actor by his performances in films like 'Ram Lakhan', 'Chaal Baaz','Beta', '1942: A Love Story', 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara' and 'Special 26' among others.

The actor also tried his luck in Hollywood and starred in 'Silver Linings Playbook' with Robert De Niro.
