AAP launches public campaign against Nitin Gadkari

AAP leaders going door-to-door to campaign against Mr Gadkari

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party has decided to launch a public awareness campaign against former BJP president Nitin Gadkari for his alleged involvement in land scams following the arrest of its chief Arvind Kejriwal.

“AAP will launch a public awareness campaign to remind the people about the involvement of former BJP President Nitin Gadkari in mega land scams and his attempts to provide favours to private companies in Maharashtra. The party will not allow any political leader involved in corruption to escape public scrutiny and the party stands solidly behind the principled stand taken by its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the fight against corruption,” the party said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, senior party leader Sanjay Singh had said that it would launch a campaign against Mr Gadkari. Party said that it has already launched a door-to-door campaign against Mr Gadkari.

The party has also said that it would challenge the Patiala Metropolitian court’s decision on Friday if it goes against Mr Kejriwal.

The party ruled out the possibility of furnishing a bond if the court demands as it has taken a “principled” decision not to do so.

“We told the court that it is not necessary to have a bail bond for those who are ready to give an undertaking that they will remain present for court proceedings. We will highlight the facts before the court tomorrow. Many poor people are stuck in the jail because they cannot provide the bail bond,” party leader Prashant Bhushan said.

“We will not pay bond as it is against our principles. If the order is not in our favour then we will challenge the court’s decision,” Mr Sanjay Singh.

Senior advocate and AAP founder member Shanti Bhushan said according to section 88 of the CrPC, “when any person for whose appearance or arrest the officer presiding in any Court is empowered to issue a summons or warrant, is present in such Court, such officer may require such person to execute a bond, with or without sureties, for his appearance in any Court to which the case may be transferred.”

Yogendra Yadav released on bail

Aam Aadmi Party leader Yogendra Yadav was granted bail on Thursday by a Delhi court, a day after he was arrested for violating prohibitory orders imposed around Tihar Jail protesting Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest.

Mr Yadav was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 5,000.
