BJP may field Kiran Bedi as Delhi Chief Minister

Bedi was being considered as she could put up a strong front against Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, whose name is doing the rounds as the CM candidate of the BJP for Delhi, said she was ready to discuss with the party leadership about her role in the Delhi Assembly.

Speaking to this newspaper, Ms Bedi said that she was open to the offer from the saffron party, provided there was a formal communication on the matter.

Sources in the BJP said that the party was mulling over Ms Bedi as the front runner for Delhi since she has been all praise for Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha election.

Sources said that Ms Bedi was being considered as the party’s CM candidate as she could put up a strong front against AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, with whom she once shared dias during Anna Hazare’s anti-graft movement. But the two fell apart after Mr Kejriwal joined active politics in 2012.

Ms Bedi said she had been receiving feelers and messages from the BJP. “There is no formal request yet. There was a request before LS polls which I had declined as I did not want to venture into full-fledged politics. Things have changed in the past 48 hours. There have been individual and both collective voices which have hinted about my role,” she said.
