Andhra Pradesh bifurcation: No clarity yet on division of workers

Telangana employees demand that key posts be filled on nativity basis

Hyderabad: Confusion is reigning supreme among the Government officials working in the cadre of zonal commissioners, additional commissioners, deputy commissioners and directors in public utilities, like the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Water Board over distribution and allotment of officials between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

There are several officers in the cadre of zonal, additional and deputy commissioners who belong to Seemandhra, but are working on deputation in the GHMC and the Water Board.
“Though the appointed day of June 2, 2014, is nearing, it is still not clear how many of us will be asked to serve Andhra Pradesh. While Telangana unions are demanding that it should be done on the basis of nativity, there are demands from officers that options by officials should be honoured,” said a senior official in municipal administration department.
Senior officers also feel that the uncertainty will affect administrative work.

“Several key posts in GHMC are being handled by officers who are actually from Seemandhra. There is pressure from Telangana employees that all these posts should be filled up with Telangana officials and even the officers from Seemandhra fear that they may be targeted if they remain here,” said another official.
GHMC Commissioner, Somesh Kumar, said “Shifting should take place only after replacement officer assume charge or the maintenance work is affected.”
