Pre-monsoon showers hits Andhra Pradesh, heavy rains to lash region

Temperatures will dip only after the onset of monsoon, likely in June second week

Hyderabad:The first pre-monsoon thunderstorms were experienced in Hyderabad and isolated places across Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday, while dry weather prevailed in Rayalaseema.

According to Met department officials, pre-monsoon showers will be experienced in different parts of Andhra Pradesh right from the setting-in of the monsoon over the South Andaman Sea till its onset over Andhra Pradesh in the second week of June.

Met officials have predicted that for the next three days, rain or thundershower activities will prevail at isolated parts of Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

“Moisture incursion from both Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, incorporated with instability in the air, resulted in thunderstorm activities in parts of Telangana, Rayalaseema and Coastal AP. A trough of low pressure running from Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema has caused this sudden moisture incursion. The Southwest monsoon set in over most parts of Andaman Sea and some parts of southeast Bay of Bengal on Sunday and is likely to advance in the next 48 hours,” said M. Narsimha Rao, assistant meteorologist, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.

According to Met department officials, some areas would receive heavy spells of rain along with thunder and lightening. “Both dry heat conditions and thunderstorm activities will prevail. Some areas will still experience 40ºC plus heat in the day, whereas thunderstorm activities will prevail in the evening.

The temperatures will dip only after the onset of monsoon, which is likely to be in June second week,” said M. Narsimha Rao, assistant meteorologist, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad. The southwest monsoon this year will hit the Kerala coast by June 5, and advance towards Rayalaseema by the second week of June, around June 9.
