Azhar should quit politics, says former cricketer's first wife, Naureen

Hyderabad: Naureen, the first wife of cricketer-turned-politician Mohammad Azharuddin, says after his loss in the recent polls, he should leave politics and concentrate on their son Asad’s cricketing career.

Azhar, contesting on a Congress ticket from the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur seat in Rajasthan, lost by over 1.30 lakh votes to BJP’s Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria.

“Yes, I watched the news on TV and my son also kept me informed about Azhar’s defeat,” said Naureen, adding, “It is unfortunate. One never knows about politics. Last time he was a winner, this time a loser. May be next time."

“I am not bothered about his personal life, I am only concerned for my son Asaduddin. He is close to both, his father and me. Both our sons wanted to be cricketers.

“Azhar has overseen Asad’s cricketing activities from the beginning. We wonder why Asad is not being selected. May be he needs to perform better."

“I don’t want my son to be a politician, though he went for campaigning with his dad. I want him to play for the country. Azhar can be his best coach,” she says.
