Telangana reconstruction top priority, says K Chandrasekhar Rao

KCR promises to work for T interests , says Legislature party leader to be elected today

Hyderabad: Thanking the electorate for ensuring an absolute majority, TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asserted that his government would take policy decisions keeping in view the interests of Telangana people and ensure 100 per cent implementation of the party’s election manifesto.

Mr Rao added that the TRS Legislature party and the Parliamentary party would meet on Saturday at noon and formally elect the Legislature party leader. He reiterated that the new government would resume all illegally occupied lands in Telangana and review decisions taken in the combined AP state which were against Telangana’s interests. “All decisions taken by the TRS government will be for the good of the Telangana people,” he added.

Asked whether he would retain the Assembly or the Lok Sabha seat, he said, “I can’t take a decision. TRSLP will decide. I should be elected first (to become CM). There is President’s Rule in the state. Then there is the Appointed Date on June 2. There are a lot of things to be done.”

On his government’s priorities, the TRS chief said reconstruction of Telangana would top the agenda in the first Cabinet meeting.
“Our main priorities will be the welfare of poor, development of the agriculture sector, creating employment opportunities for the youth by improving the economy and attracting national and international investment through best industrial policy,” he said.

The TRS chief, whose security has been beefed up following his party’s win, asserted that his government would also look into the issue of withdrawal of cases pending against students in consultation with the police and stand by the kin of the martyrs.

Promising to set aside political differences and take all sections along with him, he complimented PM-designate Narendra Modi for the BJP’s landslide win at the Centre and TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu in AP.
“I have full fledged majority. So where is the need for seeking support of other parties? The party also has about 12 MPs who will play a key role at the Centre.”

After garlanding the statue of Telangana Talli and Prof. Jayashanker at Telangana Bhavan, Mr Rao interacted with the media. Senior party leaders, T. Harish Rao, Etala Rajender, Dr K. Kesava Rao, Nayani Narasimha Reddy and P. Ramulu welcomed him.

When reminded of his prediction that Mr Modi would not come to power at the Centre, he said, “That was our expectation, but it hasn’t come true.” He added that there would be no bad blood between him and Mr Naidu.
The TRS chief also promised to bring in drastic reforms in police administration.
