Naval officer’s wife jumps to her death

wife of Lieutenant Commander Sudhakar Bhat was suffering from depression

Visakhapatnam: The wife of Naval officer Lieutenant Commander Sudhakar Bhat, committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of the naval officers’ residential building’s Godavari Block in the city on Thursday. The deceased, Nikhila Bhat, committed suicide at around 7.15 am. The couple had got married 18 months ago. Police said that Nikhila was suffering from depression and was getting treated by Dr Sanjay Ghosh. Sudhakar is a native of Belgaum in Karnataka, while Nikhila was from Maharashtra.

One Town inspector Syed Mahommad Illiyas said as her husband was working in a submarine, Nikhila feared that he would have an accident after hearing about mishaps involving submarines in Mumbai. As the wife had an unnatural death before the completion of seven years of marriage, the case is being investigated by the Visakha Urban Magistrate. Police said that Nikhila’s parents, who were SBI officers at Mumbai, came to Vizag on Thursday. They admitted that their daughter had depression. Nikhila’s parents didn’t raise any suspicions about their son-in-law Police also said they didn't find any suicide note.
