7 hour power supply on paper, 5 hour in reality, say farmers

Spl Chief Secretary praised officials for supplying 7 hours of power during Rabi season

Hyderabad: Energy department has been boasting of supplying seven hours of power to the agricultural sector during the Rabi season, and the special chief secretary has even praised the officials for the same. But, in reality, the agricultural sector receives less than five hours of supply in many parts of the state according to the farming community.

“While appreciating the sustained efforts of engineers and employees for providing satisfactory power supply to consumers, special chief secretary S.K. Joshi emphasised on the need to maintain the same tempo in future. He specifically lauded the officials for putting in efforts to maintain seven-hour power supply in two spells without affecting a single acre of crop in the Rabi season,” a press statement said.

M. Shashi Rao, a member of the Federation of Farmers Associations, however, said that the supply was not more than five to six hours for the Rabi season reducing the small farmers to a desperate
situation.
