NEW DELHI: Among the tasks that have kept Prime Minister Manmohan Singh busy in his final few days in office is the writing of farewell letters to several world leaders, among them US president Barack Obama and Russian president Vladimir Putin. Other world leaders who have also been sent these letters include German chancellor Angela Merkel and former Chinese premier Wen Jiabao.
In these letters, Dr Singh is learnt to have conveyed his thanks to them while recalling how they had worked together all these years.
He had a long association with several world leaders as he headed the Indian government for two terms totalling a decade. Former premier Wen has sent a hand-written response to the Prime Minister in which he has expressed his admiration for Mr Singh’s leadership and the role he played in fostering better relations between the two countries.
Dr Singh and the Chinese leader had enjoyed a good rapport and they met over a dozen times officially.
