Heavy rainfall expected on Saturday in Telangana and Coastal Andhra

Hyderabad: Two women died in Prakasam after being struck by lightning on Thursday night as a result of heavy rains caused by the low pressure area in the southeast Arabian sea.

Anjali from Mettuvanipalem village and Rattamma from Kandalapadu village died after being struck by lightning.

Meanwhile, power supply was cut off in the city till the early hours of Friday due to the heavy rains. Metro work came to a halt in a few junctions at Tarnaka, Paradise and others. Reports of three trees falling came in from Basheerbagh, Amberpet and Daram Karan Road in Ameerpet.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall on Saturday as well. “Heavy to very heavy rain will occur at isolated places in all districts of Telangana and in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur of coastal Andhra Pradesh. By Sunday, the intensity of the rain will decrease,” Met officials said.

Areas under the Greater Hyderabd Municipal Corporation limits received over 13.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Friday.
