Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, on Tuesday, slammed BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for raising his caste issue in the elections.
“I am surprised that Mr Modi is repeatedly claiming to belong to the OBC castes but has never bothered to specify which caste group he belongs to. He should specify whether he is an OBC or belongs to a most backward caste. I do not think he is an OBC but is raising the issue only to garner OBC votes,” she said at a hurriedly convened press meet here.
Ms Mayawati said that it was the BJP that withdrew support from the V.P. Singh government when the latter implemented the Mandal Commission report.
“The BJP can never wish well for Muslims, Dalits and OBCs because it is essentially an upper caste party and these caste groups should realise the BJP game plan now,” she said.
