Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandkids cry on stage

Organisers were publicly derided for making the awards night a money-making racket
Mumbai: The recent awards night in Mumbai’s Juhu, organised by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy for life time achievement in Indian cinema, saw a lot of drama that left the industrywallahs perplexed.
Chandrashekhar and Mrudula Pusalkar, grandchildren of Dadasaheb Phalke, went up to the stage out of turn and let forth a tirade against the industry bigwigs and how the award had become a money-making racket.
“We were not treated respectfully… We were not allowed to sit in the front rows. The chairman, Sawant Kumar Tak, made us sit behind in the crowd. We have been suppressing our feelings for a long time now. My grandfather, Dadasaheb Phalke had worked for the benefit of Indian cinema so that it could reach great heights and could be internationally recognised. But in today’s materialistic world, the award function on his name is only about making money. It has become a money-making racket,” they said.
Comedian Kapil Sharma, who received the Best TV Actor award for his Comedy Nights with Kapil, came up next and said in a dazed voice: “Light kahan hai…mic kahan hai… log kahan hai... aur mera award kahan hai?? (Where are the lights? Where is the mic? Where are the people and where is my award??)”
Following this, the event was wound up in a hurry but the damage had been done.
