Hyderabad voter turnout was 53.03 per cent, blow to Election Commission

The district recorded 53.86 per cent turnout in 2009

Hyderabad: Even though the EC had practically closed the city to encourage people to turn up and vote, Hyderabad recorded just 53.03 per cent polling by 6 pm on Wednesday, according to preliminary figures, the lowest in Telangana. The district recorded 53.86 per cent turnout in 2009.

Ranga Reddy district recorded 60 per cent polling by 6 pm in its 14 Assembly constituencies and two LS seats.

Hyderabad district election officer Somesh Kumar said, “Even if the polling percentage touches 60 per cent in Hyderabad district, we’ll take it as a success as the school holidays had commenced on April 23.”
