An iPhone case alerts you of calls and SMS without any power

Receives notifications from an iPhone and is also powered by electromagnetic energy

A Kickstarter project, Lunecase is an iPhone case which is wireless, intelligent and is powered using the wasted electromagnetic energy (field) of the smartphone.

When you receive a call or an SMS, the electromagnetic field emitted by the smartphone is enough to power a small miniscule circuit. A similar circuit is used inside the case of the iPhone which delivers enough power to just light up one of the two low-powered notification lights. The lights used are either LEDs or an EL (electro-luminescent) patch, but we are not sure.

“Ten or even five years ago mobile phones emitted a lot more electromagnetic energy than they do now. There is so little electro-magnetic energy outside of modern smartphones that it seemed impossible to transform that energy into something useful. We have filled the Lunecase with the technology needed to capture and utilize these electromagnetic waves, but the Lunecase can still protect your smartphone from light damage, because primarily it's still a protective case for the iPhone made from durable material.

Our top priority was to create a functional and intelligent case that still looked sleek, chic, and preserved the aesthetic lines and contours of the iPhone. The case is innovative, intelligent and hi-tech, and we still succeeded in keeping the Lunecase an elegant, ergonomic and a good-looking accessory for your iPhone! The case remains as thin as the most popular cases on the market,” said the Lune team.

The Lunecase does not have any batteries inside the case or any connections with your smartphone, you just have to snap the case on your iPhone and it will go to work straight away. That’s the beauty of the technology - by utilizing the electromagnetic energy, we can eliminate the need for batteries and connections.

The Lunecase will identify the type of notification, whether it would be an incoming call, or a text message. The case displays these notifications on the back of your smartphone with the help of LEDs, using the free energy that is emitted by the device, converting it from the natural iPhone's electromagnetic energy into a usable energy to power the notification system embedded in the Lunecase.
