‘I’m not just a lucky charm’, says Asin

'Even though Mumbai isn’t home really, it feels like home'
Mumbai: Asin, currently shooting for a film with Abhishek Bachchan, gets chatty about the film world and how she copes with it.
With back-to-back hit films, you’ve been considered a lucky charm by filmmakers and co-actors. Does that unnerve you?
I am happy and thankful for the success of my films. But I don’t take such tags too seriously and so it doesn’t unnerve me. There’s more to me than being a ‘lucky charm’, which is yet to be discovered by the Hindi film industry.
Now that you have moved to Mumbai, do you feel the need for companionship? For a successful actor, living alone in Mumbai must be a tough task.
I don’t live alone. My parents have moved to Mumbai just for me and for that I am eternally grateful to them. My family is my biggest support. Even though Mumbai isn’t home really, it feels like home, all thanks to them.
Who are your friends in the industry? The people you can bank on?
The people I bank on are my family and myself. But luckily, I have had a good rapport with the people I have worked with so far and some that I haven’t yet worked with too! A lot of them attended my birthday party last year.
How do you unwind?
I love to read and travel. Both widen your horizons. I also like to spend time with my family over dinner or watch a film with my friends. But the most relaxing thing according to me is a fantastic foot massage! Nothing beats that.
Do you like to be seen as a trendsetter?
I am what I am. If people accept me, great. If not, that’s cool with me too. But I don’t consciously do things to cater to a particular ‘image’ or a PR strategy. That’s just not the kind of person I am, though I have been told and I have also seen that it’s not the way things work here.
Tell us about your upcoming films. Also what was the last Hindi film that you really liked and would have wanted to do?
The most recent Hindi film I liked was Queen. But I never wish I did anyone else’s film. Each film is meant for the people who did it. I’m currently shooting for All is Well which is directed by Umesh Shukla and stars Abhishek Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor.
