The thematic effect

Party circuits are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to having quirky night-outs
Bangalore: Everyone loves a good party, but when it gets a different theme, the excitement doubles. Gone are the days of the done-to-death Bollywood nights and Halloween themed parties. The new age parties are the foam, pet and the full moon parties, which are making the city’s party circuit exciting.
When you are letting your hair down, it isn’t such a bad thing to fool or ‘clown’ around, right? Himanshu Singh, an event organiser took a cue from that and held a clown party recently at UB City with accessories to match — the big red nose, hats, the patent colourful wigs, the whole nine yards. “Theme parties definitely attract people, because it’s more than just drink, dance and party the night away,” says the organiser who is planning a pillow fight party next and adds they are more fun to do as well. Speaking of party animals having fun, why leave the animals out? That’s when the ‘P-Factor’ steps in. Raaj Gowda, owner Eternity Entertainment and a dog lover himself, says that one of the main reasons he did the P-Factor was because pet owners cribbed about leaving their pets behind when they were out having fun. His party had about 80 guests, excluding the canine and feline, who themselves added another 30 to the total headcount.
MC Deepa who took her two-year-old golden retriever, Junior, to the pet party says, “I love these theme parties because there is something specific to look forward to. In the usual party you know you are going to do the same thing you did last weekend,” she explains. Talking about something to look forward to, the full moon party at the highest point in the city doled out special VIP treatment to all the guests who came dressed in white or silver. That night was literally a scene out of Ben E King’s song, Stand By Me — ‘When the night has come, and the land is dark, and the moon is the only light we’ll see.’ The folks danced the night away under the moonlight with no other artificial light available.
Another theme party enthusiast is DJ Shuv, who has played at quite a few such get-togethers. “People who come for these want to experience something they haven’t seen before,” he states. It seems like the event and party organisers are leaving no stone unturned to entertain and lure their guests. Zubair AH, owner of Zzeeh events reveals what makes a theme party a hit. “If you get the right props and the accessories, the party will be a success,” says the organiser whose last foam party had a special foam machine installed just above the pool in a star hotel. The event was such a hit that he is having another one the coming weekend, on popular demand.
The next on the cards from his end is a Pyjama party, “There is an unmatched excitement before a theme party which is missing in a regular party, it is indeed a lot of fun,” says Jasmine Kaur, a party animal who makes it a point to attend as many theme parties as possible.
