Sonia Gandhi faults K Chandrasekhar Rao language

Congress president alleges that TRS chief's language was threatening
KARIMNAGAR: Congress president Sonia Gandhi recalled that 40 MLAs of the Congress had raised the issue at the party‘s meeting held in Mahbubnagar in September 2000, seven months prior to the TRS being floated in 2001.
She alleged that the TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s language was threatening. Appealing to the public to maintain brotherhood with the people of Seemandhra, she stated that people of both regions were close to her heart.
Mrs Gandhi added that the aspirations of four crore people of the region had become a reality owing to the Congress’ commitment and determination to carve out a new state.
As per social justice, which is the Congress’ policy, all sections should be included in development, she said, adding, “For Congress, social justice means empowering weaker sections. Welfare schemes, which were introduced in the last 10 years, ensured growth of Dalits, tribals, minorities, women, youths and backward communities of the region.”
In order to achieve this social justice, both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed their lives, while Mahatma Gandhi dedicated his life for the sake of the nation’s independence she added.
“Today, fundamentalist forces, the RSS and BJP, including its allies are indulging in communal politics which may affect secular feature of India. But the Congress never displayed partiality based on community, religion and language. It always tries to unite communities,” she said.
Reiterating that the UPA was committed to develop Telangana, Mrs Gandhi said that the country’s largest power plant would be established in the region.
She further said that the Congress would spell out what it could accomplish and urged voters to cast their votes to nominees of the Congress to witness growth in the new state. TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, working president Uttam Kumar Reddy, manifesto chairman D. Sridhar Babu, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and senior leaders and nominees of the party were present.
Mrs Gandhi was accompanied by senior party leader Mr Digvijay Singh. During her maiden visit to the district after the creation of Telangana, Mrs Gandhi saluted martyrs, youth, students, women, farmers, intellectuals and journalists who relentlessly took part in the struggle for a separate state.
Meanwhile, there was confusion over the venue of the meeting. Thousands of people were waiting at the Circus Ground, also known as Jyothiba Phule Ground, located near Telangana Chowk. But, the meeting was held at Ambedkar Stadium. Incidentally, a trade exhibition was being organised at the Circus Ground.
“Over 2 lakh people turned up for the meeting. Credibility of the Congress has been proved. Success of the meeting boosted morale of candidates. Now, electors will cast their votes for Congress,” said Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar.
