Hyderabad faces electronic voting machine crunch

District Election Officer has written to the Chief Electoral officer for 2,300 more EVM's

Hyderabad: With too many candidates still remaining in the fray to contest the elections from 15 Assembly constituencies and two Parliamentary constituencies in the city, the Hyderabad District Election authorities are facing a shortage of 2,300 electronic voting machines.

Though the authorities have over 13,000 EVMs, the shortage has arisen as nearly 400 candidates are in fray from Assembly and LS constituencies in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad District Election Officer Somesh Kumar has written to the Chief Electoral officer for 2,300 more EVMs. Each EVM can accommodate 16 names. But there are more than 30 candidates in many places.
