Jayalalithaa pitches for non-Congress, non-BJP government

'The present situation is such that only regional parties can jointly form a government at Centre'

Arani: Days after attacking BJP, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday raised the pitch for a non-Congress and non-BJP government at Delhi after the Lok Sabha polls.

Jayalalithaa, whose party had attended a meeting of the Third Front in Delhi ahead of elections, however, in a cautious approach did not predict the government formation by the Front saying regional parties would play a pivotal role in next government formation.

"The present situation is such that only regional parties can jointly form a government at Centre. That is AIADMK's intention also", she told an election rally here.

Jayalalithaa rejected accusations that AIADMK was soft-pedalling on BJP and that her party was "B" team of the saffron party. "As far as we are concerned, we are nobody's B-team but are the Primary Team," she asserted.

She appealed the electorate to ensure AIADMK candidates' ictory in all the 40 Lok Sabha seats -- 39 in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in Puducherry to enable her party to play a key role in government formation at the Centre.

Both Congress and BJP and their alliance parties were working against Tamil Nadu's interests and therefore their candidates should be handed down a severe drubbing, she exhorted the electorate.

However, Jayalalithaa said that her primary target could be Congress since it had 'betrayed' Tamil Nadu despite being in power for ten years. DMK was party of the betrayals, she charged.

"They (DMK and others) say only two things. One, Jayalalithaa should not become Prime Minister and the other is only those whom they identify should become Prime Minister," she said.
