Law to stop Pervez Musharraf from leaving Pakistan

Musharraf facing wrath for imposing emergency rule in 2007

Islamabad: Pakistan government is set to enact a special legislation to stop former military ruler Pervez Musharraf from leaving the country until the court decides his future in the treason case.

“The government will pass a special legislation to keep him in Pakistan”, a senior government official said. The government has filed a treason case against Mr Musharraf for imposing emergency rule in 2007.

The former military ruler has already been indicted in the case.

Under the proposed legislation, no accused facing the treason charge would be allowed to leave the country on any pretext.

Sources said while the government is determined to take the treason case to its logical conclusion, the army is finding it hard to digest the humiliation of its former boss.
