National team defender breathing a sigh of relief that tournament will finally see the light of day

New Delhi: With the much awaited Indian Super League ready to roll later this year, national team defender Syed Rahim Nabi is breathing a sigh of relief. With several I League clubs opposing the ISL until recently, Nabi and many other Indian players who were contracted with the multi million dollar tournament, were forced to spend a large chunk of the past season on the sidelines.
Currently representing Mohammedan Sporting Club in the I League, Nabi who had joined the ISL bandwagon at the end of the 2012-13 season is happy that the tournament will finally see the light of day. “I was going through a lot of tension and was feeling de-motivated as I was not getting to play,” Nabi said.
Nabi feels that the tournament has the potential to do for Indian football what the IPL did for cricket. “I am playing in the I League for the last 14 years. I remember when it was launched, it created a lot of excitement among football fans. People want to watch high quality football. The ISL will bring in former World Cup stars and that will attract the crowds. Our young players will also learn a lot from them. The ISL could to do for Indian football what the IPL did to cricket. Even the seniors get to learn a lot. We will get to know our drawbacks. ” the 28 year old said.
