My focus is to make a good film: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

“I think Harshvardhan has to carve his own niche"
The euphoria surrounding Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' hasn’t quite waned even though almost a year has passed after its release. After sweeping all the local awards, the film is now gearing up for international recognition. BMB has been nominated in almost every category in the upcoming IIFA awards. The filmmaker is ecstatic about his film getting recognition at international level. “When your film is being talked about on an international platform and in the presence of some big names from Hollywood and the Hindi film industry, it’s a moment of great pride,” says Mehra.
The filmmaker, who is gearing up to launch Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor in his upcoming film Mirza Sahiba, feels that survival and acceptance in the film industry depends on luck and hard work. “I think Harshvardhan has the potential to be a good actor. As a filmmaker, my job is to extract the best out of him. The star-son tag might work for him initially but in the long run he has to carve his own niche. For me, launching Anil Kapoor’s son is as preassurising as working with an established actor like Aamir Khan. But in both cases, my focus is to make a good film. Yes, we’ve raised the bar. Hopefully the audience will connect with Mirza Sahiba just like they did with Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.”
