Kerala elections: CPM dares to hold re-poll

CPM came out with a warning that the party would not allow re-polling at booths

Thiruvananthapura/ Malappuram: The day after the polls, a few incidents were in parts of Malabar but the CPM Kannur leadership came out with a warning that the party would not allow re-polling at booths where complaints were not given by UDF booth agents on polling day.

CPM central committee member E P Jayarajan, district secretary P Jayarajan and LDF district convener K P Sahadevan warned of trouble if re-polling was ordered on the directions of sitting MP, Mr K Sudhakaran, “who had sensed sure defeat”.

They alleged that LDF booth agents were attacked by Muslim League workers at Taliparamba. But KPCC president V M Sudheeran had falsely accused the CPM of creating trouble in the area, based on Mr Sudhakaran’s allegations. They alleged that the League had attacked even SDPI worker.

Meanwhile, two IUML workers were hacked at Thanaloor near Tirur in Malappuram on Friday by unidentified persons. The injured are Asif K and Abdul Hakkim.

In Thiruvananthapuram, no untoward incident was reported during the hartal called by UDF in Vattiyoorkavu in protest against the attack by a BJP activist on a UDF leader on Thursday.

BJP activist Sugathan, who allegedly attacked and wounded Kodunganoor counsellor Sheena’s husband Shaji, 40, meanwhile went underground.

Local UDF leader Shaji was attacked with a wooden plank by Sugathan on Thursday night. Police caught him but let him off, provoking UDF workers to stage a sit-in. But they dispersed after DCP Ajeeta Begum reached promised stern action. Shaji, with six stitches on his head, was at the Medical college hospital.
