Double bonanza for some families this election season

Political parties nominated more than one person of same family
Hyderabad: It’s a “double dhamaka” for some families in securing tickets from major political parties for the ensuing general elections.
The MIM has allotted the Malkajgiri Parliament and Assembly seats to the father and son duo of Sudhakar Dharanikota (Malkajgiri Assembly) and Diwakar Dharanikota (Malkajgiri Parliament).
This is for the first time in the history of the 54-year-old MIM party that tickets have been allotted to two members of the same family. The Dharanikota family is famous in the Monda Market locality since the family is involved in onion, coconut and chilli trade for three generations. Mr Sudhakar still runs the business in Monda Market. His son Mr Diwakar, though, studied in the US, is settled there and assists his father in his business.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president and sitting MLA, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy secured the Huzurnagar Assembly ticket in Nalgonda district, while his wife N. Padmavathi was allotted the Kodad ticket at the last minute. Interestingly, the Congress granted the seat to Ms Padmavathi even though it is against its policy of allotting only one seat per family.
The Nirmal sitting Congress MLA, A. Maheshwar Reddy has got the ticket again while his brother-in-law T. Rammohan Reddy bagged the Congress ticket for the Parigi Assembly seat. Veteran Congress leader from Parigi, Kamatham Ram Reddy was sidelined to accommodate TRR. He joined the BJP and secured a ticket.
However, for some, it wasn’t very easy. They had to sacrifice their own seats to ensure seats for their family members. Former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy had to give up her Maheshwaram seat to pave the way for her son P. Karthik Reddy who has secured a ticket for the Chevella LS seat. Uppal sitting MLA Bandari Raji Reddy’s sacrifice for his brother Bandari Laxma Reddy paid off with the party allotting ticket for Mr Bandari Laxma for the same seat.
Musheerabad sitting MLA and wife of former chief minister P. Anjaiah, P. Manemma sacrificed her seat in the hope that her son would get the ticket, but instead it went to former Union minister P. Shiva Shankar’s son Dr Vinay Kumar.
Similarly, the efforts of sitting Secunderabad MP M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, and sitting MLA from Goshamahal and former minister M. Mukesh Goud, to secure the Musheerabad seat for their sons also went in vain. Sanathnagar sitting MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy’s plea to allot the Chevella Lok Sabha seat to his son M. Aditya Reddy was also turned down.
