Even lotus-like flowers anger Lalu Prasad Yadav

Asked party workers to remove lotus like flower from stage

Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was so upset after mistaking some pink flowers used in decoration of his rally stage as lotus the BJP’s symbol that he frantically ordered the removal of all such flowers from the site, drawing ridicule from the BJP.

When Mr Yadav, who has so far addressed the largest number of rallies among all Bihar leaders in Lok Sabha poll campaigns, climbed the steps of his rally dais in Aurangabad on Tuesday, pink-coloured flowers adorning the dais on all sides caught his sight first. He mistook them for lotus and smelled some foul play. So he immediately yelled at his supporters to pull out all the flowers from the site. He began addressing the crowd only after his order was carried out.

Taking a jibe at Lalu’s fury senior BJP leader and former Bihar chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said “The lotus represents Goddess Lakshmi, who is seated on this flower. Lalu Prasad Yadav, who ruled Bihar for 15 years, represents Bihar’s destruction. When he still seeks the votes of Bihar’s people, his political desperation is showing in his action.”

The Congress, however, saw a useful metaphor in Mr Yadav’s action. “By asking for the removal of the flowers from the stage, Mr Yadav asked the people to defeat political forces unsuitable for India’s democracy,” said Bihar Congress chief Ashok Chaudhary.
