Telangana Assembly polls: TRS to go alone, 69 names in first list

KCR promises Rs 10 lakh and agricultural land to families of each Telangana martyr

Hyderabad: Announcing that it would not strike an alliance in the upcoming state and Lok Sabha elections, the TRS on Friday released its first list of candidates for 69 of the 119 Assembly seats in Telangana region alongwith its poll manifesto.

"Right from day one, we have been saying that we will not have alliances with anyone in this elections. The wish of Telangana people is that we contest alone. Accordingly, we are going alone," TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao told reporters.

Rao would contest from Gajwel assembly constituency in his native Medak district, while son and sitting MLA K T Rama Rao would fight again from Sircilla assembly seat in Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh.

All the sitting MLAs of TRS have been retained from the constituencies which are being presently held by them. The candidates for the remaining assembly seats and the Lok Sabha constituencies would be announced soon, he said.

TRS manifesto offers 12 per cent reservation to Muslims, special increment for Telangana employees, Rs 50 thousand crores for SCs, Rs 1,000 crores for Muslims, Rs 10 lakh and agricultural land to families of each Telangana martyr.

Rao said power deficit is a major challenge before Telangana, which needs to be sorted immediately.

Others in the list are Etela Rajender from Huzurabad, T Harish Rao from Siddipet, Pocharam Reddy from Bansuwada, Jogu Ramanna from Adilabad and Koppula Harishwar Reddy from Parigi.

TRS had held talks with CPI for an alliance, but nothing concrete appeared to have come out of the exercise. As of now, it appears TRS will go alone in Telangana.

The ruling Congress, having been spurned by the TRS for a merger or even an electoral alliance, is in talks with the CPI for a tie-up.

The prolonged talks between TDP and BJP for a pre-poll understanding appear to have come to a final stage and the two parties are expected to make an announcement of the pact soon.

According to reports, BJP is likely to get about 45-50 Assembly and eight Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, which would come into existence on June 2.

Latest pre-poll surveys indicate that Congress and TDP-BJP coalition may not be doing too badly in Telangana, though TRS was initially projected to be holding sway.

YSR Congress, which suffered an erosion of its base in Telangana over its opposition to the bifurcation, is reportedly finding the going tough. CPI(M), a consistent supporter of "united AP", has already released two lists of candidates for the elections.
