Too much running might kill you... soon

New research says too much jogging may lead to early death

Morning jogs and regular running have always been considered healthy exercise options that come with a range on benefits like weight control, stress reduction and better blood pressure.

However, researchers now say that too much jogging could lead to early death.

The study claims that both, couch potatoes as well as overly enthusiastic runners are at an equal risk of die sooner than their given life spans.

"Our study didn't find any differences that could explain these longevity differences," Dr. Martin Matsumura, co-director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the Lehigh Valley Health Network, told HealthDay.

Nevertheless, a number of studies recommend a moderate running regimen, which amounts to a total of two to three hours per week.

Matsumura and his colleagues studied more than 3,800 men and women runners, all aged around 46 years and nearly 70 percent of them confessed to more than 20 miles a week.

The experts also took an account of what the runners' medications were and whether they had high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a smoking history.

However, they could not get any of these factors to explain why long-distance runners faced a shorter life hazard.
