'Big Bang Theory' to have special 'Star Wars' episode

The CBS comedy teamed with a group of special effects technicians

Los Angeles: Hit sitcom 'The Big Bang Theory' is teaming with Lucasfilm for a special 'Star Wars' episode to celebrate 'Star Wars' Day.

The special episode is set to air on May 1, just in time for the annual May 4 'Star Wars' Day, which is observed on May 4 to honour the space opera franchise created by George Lucas, said The Hollywood Reporter.

In the episode the cast would get together to celebrate the annual geek holiday, while Sheldon (Jim Parsons) will be guided by visions of his childhood idol and mentor, Professor Proton (Bob Newhart).

The CBS comedy teamed with a group of special effects technicians from Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic to re-create Dagobah.

Dagobah is the remote world of swamps and forest that served as a refuge for Yoda, who is one the main characters of the space opera franchise.

"We were approached by the Lucasfilm people to do something to celebrate Star Wars Day, which was nice," 'The Big Bang Theory' co-creator Chuck Lorre, said.

"We knew that Bob was coming back and Lucasfilm called us, and we realised that that this might be an opportunity to mix both stories and come up with something special," show-runner Steve Molaro said.
