PG entrance paper leakage scam: Press leaked papers; says CID

A suspect, top ranker from Delhi surrendered

Hyderabad: Crime Investigation Department officials who are probing the PG entrance paper leakage scam say that preliminary investigation indicated that the paper had been leaked at the printing press.

With pressure mounting from Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to arrest the accused, the entire state police machinery is now working on it. CID has picked up nine suspects in the scam and also the printing press managers from Manipal in Karnataka and is interrogating them.

CID in its initial report submitted to DGP B. Prasada Rao stated that it had concluded that the paper was leaked from the printing press and was sold to candidates who subsequently got high ranks. Meanwhile a top ranker, who was a suspect from Delhi, surrendered before the CID on Wednesday.

In addition to the existing five teams of CID, three top officials, including two inspector-generals of police, working in other wings have been roped in along with officials who had dealt with the SSC exam paper leak scam. Even the state intelligence department is trying to track the mobile phones of the students who are being suspected.

So far the clues point towards the key accused who were involved in the 2012 Chandigarh PG medical entrance scam as well as the 2009 Eamcet entrance paper leakage scam. It was found that several of the suspects who ranked below 2000 in the Karnataka PG medical entrance test this year, ranked over 25 in the state with the leaked paper. So far, a total of 18 accused have been identified in the case.

A top official of state police said, “Some of the suspects have switched off their mobile phones. Our agencies are trying to track them. We will achieve a breakthrough in the case in the next two to three days. It appears that there is a connection with the printing press in the scam.”

Governor E.S.L Narasimhan is personally monitoring the case along with Intelligence chief M. Mahendar Reddy apart from CID additional DG T. Krishna Prasad.
