Don’t fill up vacant High Court posts: K. Chandrasekhar Rao

TRS chief urges vacancies to be filled only after the creation of Telangana

Hyderabad: TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has urged the President, Governor and Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta to defer any proposal to fill up the vacant posts of judges of the High Court till June 2, 2014 (Appointed Day).

In a letter addressed to them, Mr Rao said that any exercise to fill up the vacancies of judges in the existing High Court before the Appointed Day has to take into account the deficiency of judges from the Telangana region, including the lower judiciary, and has to ensure justice to the region.

He brought to their notice that at present, only eight judges were from the Telangana region as against 32 judges in the AP High Court. The TRS chief further said that as per the Constitutional provisions, the concerned Chief Minister of the state must be consulted before a person’s name is recommended to the office of Judge of the High Court.

Mr Rao said that as there was no popular government in the state and the state was under President’s Rule, it would be proper to fill up the vacancies only after the Appointed Day after consulting the chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
