Elections 2014: 4.59 Lakh young voters enrol in 2 months in Kerala

A total of 2,42,51,942 voters to hit LS polls in state

Thiruvanantpuram: As many as 4,59,672 people in the state have enrolled themselves in the voters’ list during the last two months taking the total number of voters to 2,42,51,942 in the Lok Sabha polls.

Compared to the 2009 polls, the number of voters has increased by 23,92,406. The number of voters in 2009 was 2,18,59,536. With the fresh enrolments, about 72 percent of the total population of the state have become voters with photo identity cards.

The final voters’ list was notified by the Election Commission on March 22. The number of voters as on January 22 this year was 2, 37,92,270. Those who submitted applications till March 9 were included in the new voters’ list.

“We are still receiving voters’ list applications. However, since the list for the current elections had to be finalised by March 22, which was the last date for filing nominations, we could not include new voters in the present list,” Election Commission sources said.

Women outnumber men by 8,88,936. While there are 1,25,70,439 female voters, the number of male voters is 1,16,81,503. The maximum number of voters is in Pathanamthitta constituency with 13,17,851, followed by Thrissur, 12,74,081 and Thiruvananthapuram, 12,67,456.
