‘I am clear about my priorities’

When it comes to movies, I’m completely dependent on my mother’

Thulasi has gamely borne the tag, ‘Radha’s second daughter’, and made heads turn when she forayed into tinsel town last year with Kadal, helmed by Mani Ratnam. Little did the teenage lass know that there was more in store for her career.

While donning the role of a Mumbai girl in her second film, Yaan, she asserts that the then chubby, composed and childish girl she was has now transformed into a jovial social animal.

Thulasi made it clear at the beginning of her career that studies were a priority. The young actress who is pursuing her Plus One in Commerce wishes to be an entrepreneur along the lines of her father, Rajasekaran Nair, a successful hotelier, whom she regards her greatest inspiration.

“My dad was the person who was most excited about my foray into the industry, he was encouraging and happy for me. When it comes to movies, I’m completely dependent on my mother. She knows what suits me best and has always been supportive. When I was younger I was more dependent on my brother. That changed as I grew up. My sister, Karthika, was there for everything right from dressing me up to guiding me on what to say, what not to say, and so on. She understands me thoroughly and our bond is strong.”

Quiz her on the changes that filmy life have brought and she replies, “I became mature, learned to plan certain situations, and of course, started believing in standing up for myself. I made myself clear about my priorities and could come out from my ‘15-year-old’ image,” says Thulasi.
