Indian products better than Chinese: NSIC

Several economies have sought help of India to develop their small industries

New Delhi: H P Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) stated that the product quality of Indian small scale industry is much better than that of China.

Kumar said that the government was also promoting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) so that they can give stiff competition to Chinese products. "We are working on a two-pronged strategy to make our products more competitive vis-a-vis China. Focus is on improving technology and increasing production to make our products price competitive," added Kumar.

NSIC is a state owned enterprise under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). NSIC acts as a facilitator to promote small industries' products and has devised a number of schemes to support small enterprises in their marketing efforts, both in and outside the country. It explores market and secures orders in bulk quantities.

Kumar also said that India has entered into agreements with 32 countries to help them develop small and medium sector. "Indian MSME has emerged as an ideal example. Several least developed and emerging economies have sought help of India to develop their small industries," highlighted Kumar.

India has opened incubation centres in 12 countries, including Egypt, Zimbabwe and South Africa, where entrepreneurs get training to make items like candles and soaps.
