Former Andhra Pradesh DGP likely to join Bharatiya Janata Party

Mr Reddy is keen to contest from the Ongole Lok Sabha seat as a BJP candidate

Hyderabad: Former DGP V. Dinesh Reddy is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party soon. Mr Reddy has been in touch with the party’s state leadership for the past few days and has expressed his desire to join the BJP. Mr Reddy also called up senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Thursday morning and discussed in detail his intention to join the party.

According to sources, Mr Reddy is keen to contest from the Ongole Lok Sabha seat as a BJP candidate in the ensuing general elections.

Sources said that Mr Dattatreya assured Mr Reddy that he would take up the issue with the central leadership and pave the way for his induction into the party at the earliest. However, when contacted, Mr Dattatreya refused to comment on the issue saying that the matter was only in the discussion stage at present and nothing had been finalised yet.

“The party will make an official announcement on Mr Reddy’s induction after getting approval from the central leadership,” he said.

Sources meanwhile added that Mr Reddy has also secured an assurance from the TDP leadership over supporting his candidature from Ongole since there are reports of a possible BJP-TDP alliance.
