Face-off: Pawan will be my rival, says brother Chiranjeevi

Chiranjeevi says KCR is provoking people for the sake of votes

Hyderabad: In politics there are no permanent enemies or friends, not even when it comes to family members. Union minister and APCC Campaign Committee chairman K. Chiranjeevi has a political rival in his family in the form of his brother Pawan Kalyan.
On Thursday, Mr Chiranjeevi made it clear that “as a brother my blessing are always with Pawan Kalyan, but politically he is my rival like other opposition parties.” He was speaking to the media at Indira Bhavan.

Both Mr Chiranjeevi and Mr Pawan Kalyan were actors who turned to politics. Mr Pawan Kalyan recently floated the Jana Sena party with the aim of defeating the Congress. The party’s slogan is ‘Congress Hatao-Desh Bachao’.

Asked how, if he cannot convince his own brother, he will convince the people of Seemandhra to vote for the Congress, Mr Chiranjeevi shot back, “Can you control your son? If you have three sons each one will be tread in their own path to realise their dreams. I always give freedom to Pawan’s thoughts, vision and ideologies. He is free to do what he wants to for the sake of serving society, I will not monitor him. Everybody has a right to form a political party.”

Mr Chiranjeevi said he had hopes that the Congress would come to power in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh. To a question, he said that the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will decide the Chief Minister after the elections.

Mr Chiranjeevi said that nobody was scared of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s threats, and everyone can live without fear in Hyderabad city which is under the Governor’s administration. He alleged that to get votes Mr Rao is provoking the people of Telangana against the people of Seemandhra. He also alleged that Mr Rao has agreed before the Congress high command to merge Bhadrachalam division in Khammam district with the Seemandhra region. He said that Mr Rao is speaking against the Polavaram project and options to the government employees only for the sake of votes.
