Chidambaram positive, throws himself into poll fray again

The seven-time MP has already hit the campaign trail.

Chennai: Cometh the hour cometh the man. This could well be the Union finance minister P. Chidambaram for Tamil Nadu Congress which failed to get even a single ally in the state for the April 24 polls. At a time when most state party functionaries were hoping that their name does not feature in the list of candidates that AICC is to soon release, Mr Chidambaram has dared to enter the poll fray.

The Harvard-educated lawyer and seven-time MP has already hit the campaign trail.

Dismissing reports that he is shifting to Puducherry, sources close to the minister told Deccan Chronicle that he would seek re-election from Sivagangai constituency.

An AICC member close to Chidambaram pointed out that he had already begun campaigning for the party as seen in the recent rally at Kanyakumari, while the others in the state Congress were yet to venture out.
“We won't be cowed down by the prevailing political situation, this isolation. We have started our campaign. We have organised a women's conference on March 15 at Sivagangai. More will follow”, he
said.

Likening the poll battle to a cricket match, the AICC member who is also a sports enthusiast, said, “We cannot abstain from batting just because the pitch has uneven bounce”.
