TRS to ‘consider’ Digvijay Singh’s alliance offer

‘Congress did not give Telangana, we forced them to give’

Hyderabad: TRS MLA K.T. Rama Rao when asked if an alliance was on the cards following AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s statement, said that the party will consider it.

“We have taken a decision (rejecting the merger with the Congress and going it alone). If both parties trust each other, give respect, the Congress-TRS alliance will be looked into by the Kesava Rao Committee,” he said.

He dismissed the Congress’ claim that it gave Telangana. “They did not give, we forced them to give Telangana,” he said.

He was confident that the TRS would have the support of the people in forming the first government in the new state of Telangana.

“People supported us in the 13-year-long fight in achieving Telangana and we expect similar support in its reconstruction,” he said.

He said the people of Telangana see the TRS as their party.

“I am confident that Andhra parties like the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress will not be there. People have seen the 10-year rule of the Congress and we are confident they will support the TRS.”

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti will be facing urban voters for the first time and the party is keen to perform well, though it has failed to do so in the past.

It will also be transitioning from a political movement to a political party and will be facing municipal, assembly and parliamentary elections simultaneously.

Notwithstanding surveys that predict a clean sweep for the party, some party leaders think that an alliance with a national party like the Congress and like-minded parties like the CPI, CPI-ML and New Democracy, which had been part of its long struggle for Telangana, should not be rejected, in order to keep the Telugu Desam and YSR Congress at bay.
