New Delhi: Close on the heels of the controversy surrounding the manner in which Rolls Royce bagged defence contracts worth '10,000-crore there could be fresh trouble for the defence ministry as the Central Vigilance Commission is said to be examining at least half-a-dozen complaints related to defence deals which could eventually be referred to the CBI.
Refusing to divulge details, highly-placed sources within the anti-corruption watchdog claimed that the complaints were regarding alleged irregularities in both fresh purchases as well as refurbishing the existing equipment both in the Army and the Air Force. Interestingly, there are no complaints related to irregularities in Navy.
The deals, sources added, were signed during both tenures of the UPA government at the Centre.
Even though CVC officials were extremely tight-lipped about the deals, sources said some of these were big ticket defence procurements executed in the last few years and running into thousands of crore.
The complaints, sources added, were still at a “preliminary stage” of investigation and if any wrongdoing was found the matter would be referred to the CBI.
