Parties try to get credit for Telangana

All parties are trying to take credit for new state.

Hyderabad: With the blame game over division of Andhra Pradesh not being entirely over, political parties are now busy claiming credit for the formation of Telangana. Congress, BJP, TRS, TD leaders are vying for credit for achieving a separate Telangana state. Interestingly, while Telangana leaders from the Congress and TD are claiming credit on Telangana, the same party leaders in Seemandhra are blaming each other for the bifurcation. TD leaders said that it was only after their party president N. Chandrababu Naidu submitted a letter to the Prime Minister for a separate state that the Centre took up the issue. TD Telangana leaders said that their party played a role in achieving Telangana. But Congress and TRS leaders are still criticising TD chief Naidu for his alleged dual stand. They said that Mr Naidu never supported a separate T state and tried to stall its formation till the last minute. Telangana Congress leaders said the credit for a new state goes solely to AICC president Sonia Gandhi, who went ahead with the process despite facing criticism and insults.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders said without their party’s support in both the Houses of Parliament, Telangana would not have materialised. At the last minute, Mr Naidu tried to change the mind of their party leadership, but their party President Rajnath Singh categorically said that their party is committed to T state and will support it in both the Houses. TRS leaders attributed the creation of T to the continued fight of their party for a decade.
According to them their leader KCR helped realise the dream of Telangana people for a separate state. While Telangana leaders from TDP and Congress are claiming credit on the formation of Telangana state in Seemandhra, both parties leaders are blaming each other on state bifurcation. Finance Minister Anam Rama Narayana Reddy remarked that Congress is being applauded in Telangana while drawing a flak in Seemandhra. Seemandhra Congress condemned holding responsible only the Congress for the state division. They said centre took up the Telangana issue only after TDP chief Chandrababu submitted a letter in support it. The Congress party had taken the decision in favour of Telangana after almost all parties extended their support. YSRCP is blaming both Congress and TDP for state division. Both Congress and TDP leaders countering the YSRCP allegation said YSRCP not only supported the creation of a new state but also showed how to go about it by citing Article 3 in its letter to the Central government.
