Samsung’s next watch to be Tizen-based?

The Korean giant drifts away from Android, builds next smartwatch based on its own software
Samsung will be launching their next-generation smartwatches which will run their own developed software, Tizen, instead of Google’s Android, according to a report on CNET. However, the Korean manufacturer replied to the inquiry on this matter that it preferred to not comment on rumors and speculations.
USA Today too reported a while back that Samsung is working on developing their own software and plans to shun Android for their next smartwatches. It also reported that it was the latest attempt by the electronics giant to develop its own software and services. It seems that Samsung has viewed Tizen as an alternative to Android to assure least dependence on Google.
The report also stated that Samsung will unveil the new Gear along with a new HTML5 version of the Tizen OS at an event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. These inputs came from a few unconfirmed sources who did not want to be identified since Samsung's plans were not yet officially public. Samsung’s spokeswoman Laurie Spindler, however, declined to this comment.
Samsung had initially planned to unveil the Tizen smartwatch in Q3 of 2013, however, delayed it further, only to plan it in February 2014. Presently the company is tight-lipped about the project and it is unsure if Samsung will continue with the project or scrap it entirely and have stronger tied with Google.
