I watch my hundreds to keep myself motivated, says Virender Sehwag

Out-of-form batsman Virender Sehwag says he watches his hundreds to keep himself motivated.

Chennai: It has been more than a year since one saw the flashing blade of Virender Sehwag smashing the ball for India.

Despite being in poor form and snubbed by his own state Delhi at the IPL auctions, the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ probably knows the mantra on how to keep himself motivated to stage a comeback into the international arena.

Sehwag to lead MCC against Durham

Sehwag was in the city to visit Karuna Vidya, a centre for education for the blind run by Rotary club of Madras. He is also part of SportsMentor — an organisation that uses advanced technology to educate children at school on sports science and various fitness programmes.

During his whistle-stop stay at SportsMentor, founded by former video analyst of the Indian cricket team S. Ramakrishnan, Sehwag said modern technology aids a cricketer in not just understanding his game better but also makes him more confident.

“I watch my hundreds to keep myself motivated. It gives me the belief that I can score runs again. Before a match, I always visualise the bowlers I will be facing and then with the help of videos I try to understand their plans,” the 35-year-old said.

The Delhi batsman, who said that he made the most of video analysis while he was in the Indian dressing room, had a close look into his game during the Ranji season.

“I didn’t figure out a whole lot of mistakes but the only main flaw I spotted was my propensity to throw my wicket away after being well set. I couldn’t convert my starts into big innings,” he added.

Will the period in wilderness coupled with his advancing years make a change to his approach in terms of batting? “I will always be a dashing batsman and will not change my game style,” added Sehwag, who feels that it’s just a matter of time before he got into form.
