Inter-state criminal held for fraud

Brahmakumaris, other spiritual organisations promised cheap materials, cheated.

Hyderabad: CID Cyber Crime sleuths arrested a fraud who, along with his associates, had been duping spiritual organisations in Hyderabad, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The accused, identified as Vaidyanathan Prakash, went by different names including Vamsi and Balakrishna Iyer, and is a resident of Eluru in East Godavari.

Vamsi used to forge documents and take money as advance from spiritual organisations by promising them that he would supply materials at nominal rates.

A case was booked based on a complaint lodged by the Brahmakumari spiritual organisation. He had duped them to the tune of '2 lakh.

He was booked for cheating, forgery and under Sections of the Information Technology Act. The CID seized his laptop with the data card used for committing the offence. Prakash did his BE from Anna University in Chennai.

“He was spending the fraudulently obtained money on a luxurious lifestyle. He had abandoned his wife and a child and was living with a woman from Eluru in Chennai. He has cheated various companies, organisations and persons with forged documents and fled after collecting huge amounts,” said CID additional DG T. Krishna Prasad.

“We still need to arrest his associates. We are informing Tamil Nadu and Kerala police to verify his complicity in their cases,” Prasad said.
