Australian woman jumps off burning lodge

A woman Australian to­u­r­ist suffered a head inj­ury while 320 other gue­s­ts of a private lodge esc­a­ped.

Tiruchy: A woman Australian to­u­r­ist suffered a head inj­ury while 320 other gue­s­ts of a private lodge esc­a­ped un­h­urt when a fire br­oke out in the building in the Sing­a­ra­thope area here on Sunday.

Julie, 61, the Australian tourist, who had been a gu­e­st at the lodge along wi­th her husband since Friday, injured her head when she jumped off the building’s fir­st floor in panic, sources said.
The fire broke out when a spark that emanated from a nearby electric tr­a­nsf­or­m­er fell on the projection of the air-conditi­o­ner fitted in the lodge.

The panicky guests of the lodge attempted to get out of the lodge by breaking the glass windows. On bei­ng informed, fire and resc­ue service personnel rus­h­ed to the spot and rescued all the guests.

How­ever, Julie suffered a ble­e­ding in­jury on her head wh­en she jumped off the first floor of the lodge in panic. She has been admitted to a hospital, sources said.
