Minority schools take on education babu

Minority school managements complain that Hyd district edu officer demand seats.

Hyderabad: The managements of minority schools have complained that Hyderabad district education officer A. Subba Reddy is demanding seats for students recommended by him.

He threatens to issue notices to them if they don’t comply, they alleged. The schools are planning to lodge a complaint with the district collector, Chief Minister and the Governor. He is targeting Catholic schools, it was alleged.

The DEO has complained that these schools are violating rules on admissions, academic calendar and conduct of exams.

“We faced a lot of problems last year on account of this. He has started asking for seats again this year. When we told him that it is not possible to allot seats, he started behaving rudely with us. He started serving notices and seeking details such as whether we are implementing RTE, said the principal of a prominent school. They asked why corporate schools were spared.

Denying the allegations, Subba Reddy said: “The RTE notices were issued based on complaints from parents. Despite having minority status, they are denying seats to minority students and allotting seats to others.”
